Center for Computerized Research Services (CCRS)

CCRS coordinates and supports computerization activities at the Abraham Harman Institute of Contemporary Jewry: database management, website construction and maintenance, and PC support.

A primary CCRS activity is managing the Contemporary Jewry Database, a consortium of computerized bibliographical projects including catalogs of the unique materials housed at the Institute, as well as listings of articles and books on 20th-century Jewish life in communities all over the world.

More than 80,000 items have been indexed, abstracted, annotated, and registered via applications of the ALEPH program designed for each project at the CCRS. Varied access is provided to all registered descriptions of books, articles, films, videotapes, oral interviews, and other documentation.

Website management has recently emerged as a major CCRS activity. The Institute of Contemporary Jewry homepage as well as those of its various academic divisions are designed, constructed, and maintained via the CCRS.

Instruction in computing and research relating to Contemporary Jewry is another primary function of the CCRS. Services and guidance are provided for online searching of databases in Israel and abroad to faculty, students, and researchers. CCRS staff helps plan and present the graduate course offered by the Institute on the uses of computers in researching contemporary Jewry.

CCRS also provides various other services for Institute faculty, staff, and students: PC support, aid in syllabus computerization, and assistance in utilizing Hebrew University computer services.
